How many questions?!?!?
How many questions?  How many to pass? Pass advanced?

Scientific Investigation Questions- 8  (this includes mapping and graph interpretation)

Astronomy Questions- 8

Meteorology, Oceanography, and Groundwater Questions- 10

Geology Questions- 24

There are 60 questions on the test- 10 of them don't count for or against you.  Starting on the 2011-2012, these field test questions will have a VERY different format.  It will be quite obvious which ones won't count for your score.  Check back for a link to see these questions.

To pass, you need to have approximately 33-35 questions correct; advanced is closer to 42-45 correct answers.  The trick is to get 33 of the non-field test questions correct- it is important to do your best on ALL questions!

Top Ten Test-Taking Mistakes

10. Failing to attempt to answer all the items.

9. Filling in the wrong answer space.

8. Making a copying error when rewriting a horizontal math problem in vertical    format.

7. Making a copying error when transferring a mathematics answer from scratch paper to the answer sheet.

6. Misreading a question.

5. Misreading answer choices.

4. Misreading key words such as not or opposite.

3. Performing the wrong mathematics operation.

2. Reading a passage before the question in a comprehension item.

1. Spending too much time on difficult items.
